Overview

The RRM Clinical Engineering staffing module estimates the requirements for clinical engineers and clinical engineering technicians to direct all facets of a comprehensive maintenance and repair program for the medical facility and to monitors and coordinates all clinical engineering related aspects of the IHS Hospital Accreditation Program. The workload parameters that are the key variables in the staffing estimation are Average Daily Patient Load and Primary Care Physician Visits.

Services Description:

The Clinical Engineering program:

  • Monitors and coordinates all clinical engineering related aspects of the IHS Hospital Accreditation Program to ensure consistency with current requirements of the JCAHO.
  • Provides professional consultation to the Service Unit or Area with regards to safety, reliability, ease of maintenance, and quality assurance of existing and prepared new instruments.
  • Directs all facets of a comprehensive maintenance and repair program for the medical facility.
  • Ensures that an effective electrical safety program is adopted and meets JCAHO and IHS requirements.

Staffing Criteria

Fixed1.50 FTE Clinical Engineering staff for every hospital.

Fixed Clinical Engineering staff of 0.50 FTEs (for each ambulatory facility)

Plus for each hospital or ambulatory facility:
0.50 FTEs Clinical Engineering staff for every 50,000 ADPL, plus 0.50 FTEs Clinical Engineering staff for every 325,000 PCPVs, plus 0.5 FTEs Clinical Engineering staff for every 85,000 ER PCPVs, plus 0.5 FTEs Clinical Engineering staff for every 10,000,000 dental service minutes, plus 0.5 FTEs Clinical Engineering staff for every 5,000 births, plus 0.5 FTEs Clinical Engineering staff for every 5,500 surgical and OB case.

0.50 FTEs Clinical Engineer Technician staff for every 10,000 ADPL, plus 0.50 FTEs Clinical Engineering Technician staff for every 65,000 PCPVs, plus 0.5 FTEs Clinical Engineering staff for every 17,000 ER PCPVs, plus 0.5 FTEs Clinical Engineering staff for every 2,000,000 dental service minutes, plus 0.5 FTEs Clinical Engineering staff for every 1,000 births, plus 0.5 FTEs Clinical Engineering staff for every 1,100 surgical and OB cases.

0.30 FTEs Clerical Support for every 65,000 PCPVs.
