PRC Seminar Summary

The Division of Contract Care sponsored a Purchased/Referred Care (PRC) Seminar
July 21 to 24 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

There over 250 attendees from Federal and Tribal programs at the meeting that offered breakout sessions on 23 topics designed to increase PRC staffs ability to perform their job. There were also general session presentations that provided information on programs and other organizations' efforts that impact on Indian health PRC.

The seminar provided training to: ensure that continuous quality improvement concepts are incorporated in all levels of the IHS and Tribal CHS operation; clearly identify the requirements of the IHS internal reporting system as it relates to Purchased/Referred Care (PRC) program; ensure that attention to quality must be day to day pervasive activity in all aspects of the PRC operation; ensure competency in compliance, interpretation and application of PRC regulations policies and procedures; ensure that PRC staff are knowledgeable in the day to day requirements of their jobs; and share information on best practices in the PRC program.

The outcome of the Seminar is that IHS and Tribal staff are: more knowledgeable in how to identify the important aspects of service and functions of the PRC operation; able to identify indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of the importance of services and functions of the PRC operation; more consistent in the PRC workload process across the Indian Health; more effective and efficient in the PRC business process.
