Children

Moving can start from birth. Parents and caregivers are great role models for getting their children moving at any age to stay healthy.
Staying active helps children:
- Sleep better
- Have more energy
- Do better in school
- Be at a healthy weight
- Feel good about themselves
Infants (Birth to 11 months): should engage in short periods of tummy time throughout the day. As the child becomes more active, this includes crawling, rolling, sitting, grasping toys, and kicking.
Toddlers (1-2 years): should engage in a variety of structured and unstructured physical activity throughout the day. Activities may include running, throwing, playing, dancing, and jumping. These can also help children improve their coordination and build strength.
Preschoolers (3-5 years): should engage in at least 60 minutes of structured and unstructured physical activity. Fun activities such as jumping, playing games, and riding tricycles can encourage young children to participate in play.
