All documents must be uploaded in the application system. Please do not mail supporting documents to the IHS Scholarship Program.

Please apply for the discipline that you will be in during the 2026-2027 academic year. If you have additional questions, please contact the appropriate program analyst. For school year 2026-2027 we will be funding scholarships for the disciplines shown on the chart below (Not all health fields are considered for funding).

2025-2026 IHS Scholarship Comparison Chart
  1. Preparatory and Pre-Graduate Scholarships: Recipients must be a member or descendant of a federally recognized, state-recognized or terminated American Indian Tribe or Alaska Native village.
    • No service commitment required.
  2. Health Professions Scholarship: Recipients must be a member of a federally recognized American Indian Tribe or Alaska Native village.
    • Minimum two years of service commitment in an IHSSP-approved position at an IHSSP-approved site. One year of service per year of support for scholarship received, thereafter.
    • Some positions may be limited to specific geographic areas within IHS. For questions regarding service obligation requirements for IHS, Tribal, or Urban Indian Health Program facilities, please contact ihsrecruiters@ihs.gov .
  3. Only Pre-Nursing (PNU) is eligible for the Preparatory Scholarship. All other nursing degree programs fall under the Health Professions Scholarship.
