Current Services
Purchased Referred Care (PRC)
The PRC Program is for medical, dental and behavioral health care services that are provided from a non-IHS provider. PRC services are determined on the basis of relative medical need in accordance with established medical priorities. Eligibility for PRC services are determined by American Indian and/or Alaskan Native membership or verified descent and residency requirements; notification requirements; medical priorities and use of alternate resources. IHS is the payor of last resort and all alternate resources must be utilized before payment.
PRC Notification Process
No payment will be made for medical care services obtained from non-IHS providers or at non-IHS facilities unless the requirements listed below have been met and a purchase order for the care and services has been issued to the medical/dental care provider by the appropriate IHS ordering official.
- In non-emergency cases, an eligible patient, an individual or agency acting on behalf of the patient, or the medical care provider, shall:
- Prior to the provision of medical care services, notify the Monacan Health Center PRC technician of the need for services and supply information that the technician deems necessary to determine the relative medical need for the services and the individual’s eligibility.
- In emergency cases, an eligible patient, an individual or agency acting on behalf of the patient, or the medical care provider, shall, within 72 hours after the beginning of treatment for the condition or after the patient’s admission to a health care facility, notify the appropriate ordering official of the admission or treatment and provide information to determine the patient’s relative medical need for the services. The 72-hour period may be extended if the ordering official determines that notification within the prescribed period was impracticable or that other good cause exists for the failure to comply.
- The elderly and disabled have up to 30 days to notify the Monacan Health Center of emergency medical care received from non-IHS medical providers or at non-IHS medical facilities. The following definitions for elderly Indian and disabled Indian are to be used until further defined and published in the Federal Register. An elderly Indian means an Indian who is 65 years of age or older. A disabled Indian is an Indian who has a physical or mental condition that reasonably prevents him/her from providing or cooperating in obtaining the information necessary to notify the IHS of his/her receipt of emergency care or services from a non-service provider or facility within 72 hours after the non-service provider began to deliver the care.
Behavioral Health
The Monacan Health Center is currently offering culturally grounded, compassionate behavioral health services as part of our commitment to healing the whole person. Services include assessments and therapy for mental health and substance use. We also offer individual and family therapy. Therapy can help acknowledge and process trauma; break cycles of pain, violence, and substance use; and can help to reclaim cultural identity and resilience.
Pharmacy
The Monacan Health Center is currently offering enrollment in our Consolidated Mail Order Pharmacy (CMOP) Program for chronic medications. This service delivers medications directly to your home, reducing trips to the pharmacy. Please contact the service unit to complete an enrollment packet. Once your enrollment is processed, our facility will contact you regarding the transfer of your medications. Prescriptions may be faxed to (615) 467-1582 or we may request them from your current pharmacy. When you are ready for a refill on your medication (at least 10 business days in advance due to processing and mailing time), please contact our Pharmacy Technician at 804-614-8532. Refills are not automatic; you will need to call in to request your medication order.
For acute and chronic medications, please contact our service unit and we will discuss all current options available.
Medical
The Monacan Health Center is currently offering patient education, cognitive assessments, and diabetic education. We want to assist our patients with understanding their health conditions and engage their families and community in prevention and support efforts. Cognitive assessments help to raise awareness of dementia and Alzheimer’s and can promote timely detection and diagnosis. Type 2 diabetes disproportionately affects American Indian communities and providing education can help to teach healthy eating habits, support physical activity and reduce complications through medication management and lifestyle changes.
The Monacan Health Center is growing! We plan to soon offer Primary Care, Nutrition, In-House Pharmacy, and Dental services.
