The IHS Dementia Clinical Support Line can help answer your clinical questions about dementia screening, assessment, diagnosis, management, and care planning.

The Clinical Support Line offers immediate, expert support to health care staff serving American Indian and Alaska Native communities. A team of dementia care specialists is ready to answer your questions, provide guidance on culturally sensitive care, and help you navigate the complexities of dementia care.

Whether you need help with a specific patient case, want to discuss best practices for dementia care, or are looking for resources to support your team, we are here to help.

The program offers on-demand clinician-to-clinician support and peer case consultation for IHS, tribal, and urban Indian health organizations including:

What is the Dementia Clinical Support Line by TRIAD?

The Clinical Support Line was established by IHS in 2025 through a contract with the University of Washington. In partnership with Dementia Care Aware, the Dementia Clinical Support Line helps health care staff give the best possible dementia care for American Indian and Alaska Native people. They offer expert advice and training, always keeping in mind the unique needs of Native communities. Their goal is to improve the health and well-being of people living with dementia and their families.

The Dementia Clinical Support Line team is ready to help answer your clinical questions about dementia screening, assessment, diagnosis, management, and care planning.

The Support line is for I/T/U professionals is free and available Monday through Friday from 12pm to 8pm ET.

A transformative impact

Together, the TRIAD Dementia Clinical Support Line and Dementia Care Aware are working to make a difference in the lives of American Indian and Alaska Native people impacted by cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

TRIAD: Dementia Care Training for Native Communities

The Training and Resources for the Indian Health Services on Alzheimer’s and Dementia (TRIAD) Dementia Clinical Support Line is provided as a service by the University of Washington, an IHS contractor, and their partners at the UCSF Dementia Care Aware program.

TRIAD is a part of a package of services focusing on:

  • Training: Learn the skills you need to provide excellent dementia care.
  • Culturally relevant knowledge: Understand the unique needs and traditions of Native communities.
  • Person-centered care: Focus on the individual needs of each patient.

With TRIAD, health care teams can offer tailored care that respects the values and traditions of Native communities.
