All Elders Moving Initiative

The Alzheimer's Program partnered with the IHS Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP) Program to create the All Elders Moving initiative. This pilot program helps elders and their families stay active and support brain health through community events.
All Elders Moving events provide opportunities for connection, movement, and learning—helping elders and their families take proactive steps toward healthy futures.
In 2024, nearly 2,500 people participated in All Elders Moving events across IHS Areas, including:
- Alaska
- Albuquerque
- Bemidji
- Billings
- Navajo
- Oklahoma

Why Movement Matters
Staying physically active is one of the most effective ways to support brain health and overall well-being. Research shows that regular movement can:
- Reduce the risk of dementia
- Help manage blood pressure and heart health
- Improve mood and reduce stress
- Enhance balance and mobility, lowering fall risks
All Elders Moving builds on these benefits by weaving physical activities—like walking, stretching, and chair exercises—into interactive, community-based events.
Bringing Health Information to the Community
Each All Elders Moving event also features educational booths with information on topics like:
- Dementia awareness and early warning signs
- Healthy eating for brain health
- Immunizations and screenings
- Strategies for reducing dementia risk
All Elders Moving continues to grow in 2025 with additional events planned in these IHS Areas:
- Portland
- Billings
- California
- Phoenix
