The 2019 IHS Diabetes in Indian Country Conference was held in Oklahoma City August 6 - 9. The conference provides continuing education opportunities and collaboration on issues related to improving outcomes for people with diabetes and those at risk for developing diabetes.

Diabetic Foot Care Strategies for Primary Care
These trainings provide in-depth information on foot care for people with diabetes. Webinars and videos available for professionals which provide valuable information on diabetes prevention and management. DHHS, Office of Minority Health – Cultural Competence Training
9 hours no-cost CME/CE credit
Cultural and language differences may engender misunderstanding, lack of compliance, or other factors that negatively influence clinical situations. A Physician's Practical Guide to Culturally Competent Care, is a self-directed training course designed for physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. This e-learning program is hosted by Office of Minority Health and offers up to 9 hours of no-cost CME/CE credit. It equips health care professionals with awareness, knowledge, and skills to better treat the increasingly diverse U.S. population they serve. National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease (NIDDK)
Professional and Continuing Education (CME & CE)
Caring for people with chronic conditions like obesity, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease (CKD) is not easy. Members of the health care team, including pharmacists, physicians, and registered dietitians, must communicate complex messages, often in a short amount of time. NIDDK has developed educational resources to enhance knowledge and skills around caring for people with these conditions. Information and training are available at the NIDDK website.
Veterans Health Administration Training Resources
The Veteran's Health Administration (VHA) TrainingFinder Real-time Affiliate Integrated Network (TRAIN) is a learning management system provided by the Public Health Foundation. In addition to programs focused on Veteran patient care, a comprehensive catalog of over 1,000 public health topics, including diabetes and other chronic diseases, is available. Some courses offer CME/CE credit and are no cost, while others may have a fee associated with the training. Both live and recorded training opportunities are provided.
Start using VHA TRAIN by:
- Creating an account or log in with an existing account by going to the VHA TRAIN website.
- Use search to browse topics and types of training.
- Track training courses and certificates through VHA TRAIN, with the option to print a transcript.
