Applications of the CANS-Trauma and FANS-Trauma Series

This series will provide an overview of the CANS-Trauma and FANS-Trauma tools in relation to trauma-informed assessment, treatment and service planning, and caregiver/family engagement. The use of these assessment strategies will be discussed in a range of service settings including mental health and child welfare, and applications to trauma-informed treatment planning, sequencing, and goal setting will also be addressed. Innovative strategies for utilizing assessment data in clinical practice will also be highlighted.

Childhood Traumatic Grief Series

While many children adjust well after a death, other children have ongoing difficulties that interfere with everyday life and make it difficult to recall positive memories of their loved ones. A child may have a traumatic reaction after a death that was sudden and unexpected (e.g., through violence or an accident) or a death that was anticipated (e.g., due to illness). If the child’s responses are severe or prolonged and interfere with his or her functioning, the child maybe experiencing Childhood Traumatic Grief. Speakers in this series discuss various topics related to Childhood Traumatic Grief.

Family Systems Series

The series covers current issues in family system assessments and family level interventions, including parent-child and inter-generational treatments, as well as important concepts such as family resilience and complex adaptations to trauma, family engagement, family centered care, and shared decision-making in the treatment processes. Experts discuss research focused on adapting trauma EBPs for family trauma contexts (i.e. domestic violence, intrafamilial trauma, intergenerational trauma, etc.) and strategies to work with multilingual and partially-acculturated families. Lastly the series offers a discussion on policy issues and implications for delivering trauma care to families.

The Impact of Interpersonal Trauma in Early Childhood and Ways We Can All Help

In this course, Dr. Vilma Reyes discusses the impact of trauma and young children including its impact of brain development; its impact on social, emotional, and cognitive development; and its impact on parent-child relationship and parenting dynamics.
