IHS Mental Health Programs

Many Tribes manage their own behavioral health programs and services.

The IHS Areas listed here are all federally-operated programs and provide mental health services.

Currently, Alaska has no federally-operated mental mealth programs.

Acoma-Canoncito-Laguna Service Unit

Services:The Acoma Canoncito Laguna Service Unit, Behavioral Health Services provides individual and family therapy; clinical support for inpatient services; crisis intervention, trauma work with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EDMR), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and other modalities; and tele-psychiatry services for all ages.

Albuquerque Indian Health Center/Zia Clinic

Services: The Albuquerque Indian Health Center (AIHC) provides Intake assessment; Psychiatric and psychological evaluation for adults and children; Individual and group psychotherapy, couple’s/marital, and family therapy; and brief- and long- term psychotherapy, including intensive, trauma-focused and evidence-based therapies. AIHC also provides medication management for adults and children; and integrated behavioral health services in primary care.

Ute Mountain Service Unit

Services: The Ute Mountain Ute Service Unit, Behavioral Health Services provides intake assessments; individual, couples, and family psychotherapy; crisis intervention, and consultation services.

Zuni Comprehensive Health Center

Behavioral Health Department, Red Lake Hospital

Services: Therapy services available for individuals across the lifespan, including individual, couples and family. Medications are also available with a psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) and part time contract Psychiatrist.

Blackfeet Service Unit Behavioral Health provides emergency on-call services weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday and Sunday.

Services:The Northern Cheyenne offers outpatient care, including Behavioral Health, during clinic hours.

Services: Screening and assessment, counseling and psychotherapy, medication assisted therapy, crisis intervention, consultative and outreach services.

Rosebud Comprehensive Healthcare Facility

Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility (QNBMHCF), Turtle Mountain Service Unit

Services: QNBMHCF provides behavioral health services through three Clinical Psychologists, one Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, four Social Workers, and two Mental Health Technicians.

Wagner Health Care Facility

Woodrow Wilson Keeble Memorial Health Care Center (WWKMHCC)

Catawba Service Unit

Services: Counseling, psychotherapy, and medication management provided by a Psychiatrist and Licensed Social Worker at the service unit two days per week, via televideo.

Lockport Service Unit

Services: Screening and psychological assessments, individual and family counseling, child therapy, group therapy, in-home individual and family therapy, support groups, and wellness education.

Mashpee Service Unit

Services: Screening and assessment, counseling and psychotherapy, medication assisted therapy, crisis intervention, consultative and outreach services.

Micmac Service Unit

Services: individual and family counseling, and tele-psychology.

Unity Healing Center

Services: Screening and assessment, individual counseling, group counseling, family counseling, support groups, and psychoeducation.

Uintah-Ouray Service Unit Dep’t of Behavioral Health

Services: Outpatient mental health assessment, counseling, and referral for adults, children, and families.

Western Oregon Service Unit

Services: Universal screening, prevention, counseling interventions, and recovery programs to reduce risk factors and promote resiliency and wellness.Western Oregon Service Unit also provides whole health integrated behavioral health to advance population health through a Patient Centered Medical Home Model of care.
